Presbyopic Laser Methods

Presbyopia is without doubt a complex condition, and a thorough analysis by an ophthalmologist is required to choose the appropriate treatment method. Not all presbyopic individuals are suitable for all therapeutic or surgical techniques. Nowadays, if the candidate is suitable, successful presbyopic corrections with excimer laser are possible in a laser refractive procedure.

In other words, the laser can face presbyopia, provided the preoperative assessment confirms suitability by evaluating a range of parameters and indicators. Since presbyopia involves the crystalline lens of the eye (behind the iris) and not the cornea, if presbyopic correction with excimer laser is recommended, all other refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism) should be also addressed.

Presby – LASIK method (considered as a multifocal laser) is chosen in laser refractive procedures when someone wants not only to correct common refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism), but also to improve near vision due to presbyopia. Presby – LASIK method is based on the operational philosophy of multifocal lenses and has very good results in specific candidates. It is continuously evolving and uses specialized nomograms with algorithms included in the software of an excimer laser. The result of the method is multifocality on the cornea for satisfactory near vision.
